Serena Williams had a slow start but that didn’t stop her from snagging the Family Circle Cup title for the second year in a row; it’s her third (2008, 2012, 2012) title at the women’s-only professional tennis event held in the City of Charleston and Daniel Island. She defeated Jelena Jankovic, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, on Sunday, April 7, 2013. Just last year, Williams ranked No. 10 in the world. Today, she’s No. 1, again, having won Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and Olympic gold medals in singles and doubles.
The Family Circle Cup is a WTA Premier Event with a competitive purse. It’s guess-timated to be $795,707 this year.
