Wu Guanzhong is perhaps the best-known contemporary Chinese painter in the world. His works, which assimilate Western elements with Chinese ones, have garnered praise among art circles and sell for incredibly high prices. Wu pushed the boundaries of our understanding of how a traditional medium of ink can be made new for a new century. Earlier this month, more than 180 paintings by Wu Guanzhong were exhibited in the National Art Museum of China in Beijing. The ‘Cultivation and Dedication’ exhibition presents a review of the artist’s 70-year career.
